Miguel Mateo Luthier – Warranty Policy

Miguel Mateo, as a Luthier and guitarrero, guarantees that his concert instruments of own construction are free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of three (3) years from the date of original purchase and payment. Bowed string conservatory instruments (violins, violas, and cellos), bows, and other commercial accessories not manufactured directly by the workshop will be covered by the official three (3) year warranty granted by their respective manufacturer or distributor. For antique or second-hand instruments, the coverage period is established at one (1) year. Cases provided free of charge as a complimentary courtesy gift with the purchase of any instrument are completely excluded from any warranty.

This warranty is granted solely and exclusively to the original private or retail purchaser when the acquisition is made directly at the workshop of Miguel Mateo Luthier, rendering it non-transferable; therefore, it may not be assigned or transferred to subsequent owners. Upon the appearance of a covered defect, Miguel Mateo Luthier will proceed to repair the anomaly or, if necessary, replace the product with a model of similar value and characteristics, not exceeding the original purchase price. Coverage exclusively includes the cost of labor and materials necessary for the remediation. Miguel Mateo Luthier reserves the right to use materials regularly available on the market at the time of the intervention in the event of discontinuation of manufacture or unavailability of the original components.

WARRANTY CONDITIONS FOR BOWS

  • Structural Period and Coverage: A warranty of three (3) years from the date of purchase is granted, limited solely and exclusively to the structural integrity and stability of the pernambuco wood stick against material defects. This warranty is non-transferable and applies exclusively to the original purchaser of the tender. Upon the appearance of a covered defect, the anomaly will be repaired or, if necessary, the product will be replaced with a model of similar value and characteristics.

  • Technical Exclusions and Components: Elements subject to natural wear and tear from ordinary use or mechanical misalignments derived from use are completely excluded from coverage, such as the hair (rehairing), the winding/lapping in any of its materials, the leather grip, and the bone or ABS tip armor. Damages derived from inadequate maintenance, cracks, splits, or deformations of the wood caused by extreme or sudden variations in temperature and humidity, direct exposure to sunlight, fire, perspiration, or the use of unapproved chemical products are also not covered. Damages to finishes (oil varnishes or shellac) are not covered.

  • Mechanical Adjustments of the Mechanism: Microscopic variations in alignment or apparent twisting derived from the natural functional and technical play of the screw housing system within the frog's channel are explicitly excluded, as this is a necessary mechanical adjustment for correct movement. The evaluation of any alleged geometric deviation or alignment of the hair will be performed exclusively in person at the workshop and under the strict technical standards of Miguel Mateo Luthier. Furthermore, assessments based on subjective criteria regarding the tonal or acoustic characteristics of the bow are totally excluded, and the warranty will be voided if the piece is modified, altered, or adjusted by third parties.

WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS

The present warranty does not cover elements subject to natural wear and tear through use nor damages derived from inadequate maintenance. Explicitly excluded are strings, wear of frets, saddle, nut, nuts, tuning pegs, and mechanical gears.

Damages to finishes (oil varnishes or shellac), cracks, splits, or deformations of the wood caused by extreme or sudden variations in temperature and humidity, direct exposure to sunlight, fire, perspiration, constant humidity, salts, body acids, or by contact with guitar straps and stands manufactured from vinyl, plastic, rubber, or other synthetic materials are also not covered, as well as the use of chemical products or polishes not expressly approved by the workshop.

The warranty will be voided on any instrument that has been modified, altered, customized, or adjusted by third parties, as well as those where the interior label or serial number is missing or altered. It does not cover accidental damage, misuse, negligence, normal aesthetic wear and tear of the box or case (handles, faux leather, hinges, latches, scratches, and aging), damages produced during transit and shipments of any kind, nor effects derived from natural disasters. Likewise, assessments and claims based on subjective criteria relating to the tonal or acoustic characteristics of the instrument are completely excluded. Legally established implied warranties shall be strictly limited to the framework and period regulated by current legislation. Miguel Mateo Luthier shall not be liable for damages due to loss of profits, business interruption, or damages resulting from the use or execution of the instrument.

MANAGEMENT AND CLAIMS

To request warranty assistance, the original purchaser must present the instrument at the workshop of Miguel Mateo Luthier located in Zaragoza, or contact the workshop previously to obtain a return authorization if shipment of the object is required, always attaching a copy of the original invoice or receipt of payment. All expenses for transport, packaging, and shipping insurance toward the workshop run at the sole expense and risk of the purchaser.

Upon arrival of the instrument at the workshop, Miguel Mateo Luthier will evaluate the damages to determine if the defect is covered by the conditions of this document. If the repair is found to be covered by the warranty, the work will be executed free of charge and the return shipping costs to the client will be assumed. In the event that the breakdown or wear is not covered by the warranty, a detailed repair estimate will be issued and communicated for the owner's approval before performing any intervention.
